BRICS Summit 2026 Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders from across Asia, Africa and West Asia as the 18th BRICS Summit gets underway in New Delhi, with trade tensions, geopolitical conflicts and supply-chain disruptions shaping the discussions.

The summit comes against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, instability in West Asia, energy security concerns and renewed US tariff pressures. Leaders are expected

to focus on economic resilience, trade and investment, supply-chain security and strengthening the voice of the Global South.

India, which holds the BRICS Chairship in 2026, has prioritised food security, energy access, technology cooperation and sustainable growth. Discussions are also expected to cover reforms in global governance and ways to deepen financial cooperation among member nations.

Modi and Putin have held bilateral talks and visited the INNOPROM India exhibition at Bharat Mandapam, while Putin has invited Modi to Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit, an invitation the Prime Minister has accepted. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for greater use of national currencies in BRICS trade and a stronger role for the New Development Bank.
