Cognizant Technology Solutions is facing a wave of class-action lawsuits in the United States after a long-running data breach at its healthcare claims processing unit, TriZetto Provider Solutions (TPS), triggered legal challenges from affected individuals.
According to court filings, at least three lawsuits were filed late last month in federal courts in New Jersey and Missouri, accusing Cognizant and its TPS unit of failing to protect sensitive personal information and disclose the breach in a timely manner, Bloomberg Law reported.
Plaintiffs, including individuals from states such as Arizona and California, allege that hackers gained unauthorised access to TPS systems as early as November 2024, and that Cognizant did not discover the intrusion until October 2, 2025, leaving protected private data exposed for nearly a year.

According to Mint, the lawsuits contend the breach affected at least 100 individuals across multiple states, exposing personal information including Social Security numbers, financial account details and home addresses, and say Cognizant failed to promptly inform affected parties once it became aware of the incident.
Class-action complaints also criticise the lack of detail in public disclosures about the breach, including the root cause and remedial measures taken, adding that the delay may have impeded victims’ ability to protect themselves from identity theft or fraud.
Cognizant and TriZetto have said they take data protection seriously. A TriZetto spokesperson stated the company “takes the protection of information very seriously and regrets any inconvenience this incident may have caused,” but declined further comment due to ongoing litigation.
The legal exposure comes as healthcare IT operations become increasingly critical, handling sensitive patient data and healthcare claims for providers and insurers, underscoring the growing stakes of cybersecurity failures in the sector.
