Iran says it targeted US personnel at UAE air base with dozens of drones

Iran has said that it launched a drone attack targeting US military personnel and helicopters stationed at Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, AFP reported citing state media on Monday, August 31.

Tehran’s army said “dozens of attack drones” were used to strike areas of the base where US helicopters and personnel are stationed.

Iran said the attack was carried out in retaliation for a US strike on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Island, Reuters reported. The official said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had been observed preparing to launch rockets and sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the US attack killed and wounded several soldiers and civilians and vowed that Tehran would respond. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that the US strike was carried out by drones.

Iran subsequently launched ballistic missiles at US forces stationed in Jordan, Axios reported. A Fox News reporter, citing a US source, said nearly all incoming missiles had been intercepted, with no significant impact reported at the time.

US President Donald Trump had warned last week that any Iranian attempt to place new mines in the Strait of Hormuz would be met with destruction, saying existing mines had been detonated or removed from international waters.
