What is the story about?
A pair of US Army helicopters flying unusually close to musician Kid Rock’s Tennessee residence has now prompted an official review, The Guardian reported. The incident came to light after Kid Rock shared two videos on social media over the weekend.
The clips show helicopters hovering at a low altitude near his home, close enough to be seen alongside his pool area, with the Nashville skyline visible in the background. In the footage, the singer, a supporter of Donald Trump, is seen clapping, saluting and raising his fist towards the aircraft.
Sharing the videos on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “This is a level of respect that sh*t-for-brains Governor of California will never know. God Bless America and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend her.”
Gavin Newsom, mentioned in his post, is a political adversary of Trump.
As per the report, the helicopters involved were identified as AH-64 Apache aircraft. Officials later confirmed that they were part of a routine exercise conducted by the US Army. But the proximity of the aircraft to a private residence has raised questions about protocol and safety.
According to Major Jonathon Bless, a public affairs officer for the 101st Airborne Division, there had been no prior request from Kid Rock for the helicopters to fly near his property. The division, based at Fort Campbell along the Tennessee-Kentucky border, frequently carries out training flights over the Nashville region.
The helicopters were also reported to have flown over a ‘No Kings’ protest against the Trump administration in Nashville on the same day. But officials have maintained that the training exercise was not connected to the protest in any way.
Meanwhile, in response to Kid Rock’s incident, the US Army has initiated an administrative review.
“Army aviators must adhere to strict safety standards, professionalism, and established flight regulations. An administrative review is underway to assess the mission and verify compliance with regulations and airspace requirements,” an army statement said as quoted by The Guardian.
The statement added that appropriate action would be taken if any violations are identified.
