What is the story about?
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beijing, China, on Wednesday, September 16, at the head of a diplomatic delegation, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.
He met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi shortly after arriving in the Chinese capital. Araghchi and Wang Yi discussed Iran-China bilateral relations, along with major regional and international developments.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
The visit marks Araghchi’s fifth trip to China since 2024. It comes days after he and Wang Yi met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, held from September 12 to 13.
Baghaei said Araghchi’s visit would also allow the two sides to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties. Wang Yi is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China.
