What is the story about?
The
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, who shot dead a 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, in Minneapolis, has been identified as Jonathan Ross.
He was the same officer involved in a high-profile incident in June last year in Bloomington, Minnesota, where he was dragged 50 yards by a fleeing vehicle, according to a report by FOX 9.
Jonathan Ross, 43, has been described by a spokeswoman as a 10-year veteran of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, The New York Times reported.
Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem stated at a news conference on Wednesday that the agent, without naming him, had been hit by a car in June. Two law enforcement officers familiar with the situation, who were not authorised to comment publicly, named the ICE agent as Jonathan Ross.
On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance also defended the agent and stated that there was no reason to question his actions. Speaking from the White House briefing room, he condemned the incident as "an attack on federal law enforcement" and "an attack on the American people," Time reported.
He further said, "This is a guy who's actually done a very, very important job for the United States of America," adding that the officer had already been hit by a vehicle twice in the last six months. “He’s been assaulted, he’s been attacked. He’s been injured because of it. He deserves a debt of gratitude,” Vance added.

The FBI in Portland on Thursday afternoon stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter), which has now been deleted, that it was investigating an "agent-involved shooting" that injured two persons and involved federal officers.
“FBI Portland is investigating an agent-involved shooting that happened at approximately 2:15 pm near the 10000 block of Main St. in Portland involving Customs and Border Patrol Agents in which two individuals were wounded,” FBI Portland said.
Later, the FBI in Portland shared a revised statement, which was focused on "an assault on federal officers," according to NBC News.
“FBI Portland is investigating an assault on a federal officer that happened at approximately 2:15 pm near the 10000 block of Main St. in Portland involving two Customs and Border Patrol agents. The two assailants fled the scene immediately following the shooting and are currently being treated for their injuries,” the revised statement said.
According to a report in Fox59, Ross testified in court last month that he was deployed to Iraq with the Indiana National Guard from 2004 to 2005. He stated that he served as a machine gunner on a gun truck as part of a combat patrol squad.
Ross said he returned from Iraq in 2005, attended college, and joined the Border Patrol in 2007 near El Paso, Texas. He worked there until 2015 as a field intelligence agent, obtaining and analysing data on cartels, narcotics and human trafficking.

According to him, he has been a deportation officer located in Minnesota since joining ICE in 2015. Ross stated that he was a firearms instructor, an active shooter instructor, a field intelligence officer, and a SWAT team member.
