Why Wall Street could pay $100,000 a month to read Trump's posts a few seconds early

Donald Trump's social media company may have found an unconventional way to monetise Truth Social: by selling speed.

According to a Financial Times report, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) has discussed charging traders and investors as much as $100,000 a month for premium access to the US president's posts through a new product called Truth API. While the company has not confirmed the reported pricing, it has announced that the service will deliver posts from the platform's 10 most influential accounts faster than regular push notifications.

At first glance, the price appears staggering. But on Wall Street, investors routinely spend millions of dollars to gain even a fractional edge over competitors.

Why speed matters

For most users, seeing a social media post a few seconds later is inconsequential. For hedge funds and high-frequency trading firms, those few seconds can determine whether a trade makes or loses millions.

Markets have increasingly reacted to Trump's social media posts, particularly since his return to the White House. Comments on tariffs, trade negotiations, sanctions or sector-specific policies have triggered sharp moves in equities, currencies, bonds and commodities.

A post announcing new tariffs, for instance, could immediately affect steelmakers, automakers, semiconductor companies and shipping firms. Comments on China could move technology stocks, while remarks on oil-producing nations or geopolitical conflicts could ripple through energy markets.

In such situations, the first traders to receive and process the information often enjoy the biggest advantage.

Speed has always been a business

Wall Street already pays heavily for faster access to information.

Trading firms spend millions on premium market-data feeds, low-latency news services and exchange co-location, where their servers are placed physically closer to exchange computers to shave milliseconds off execution times.

Truth API extends that model beyond financial data to political communication.

Instead of paying for faster stock prices or earnings releases, firms would be paying for faster access to statements from one of the world's most influential policymakers—whose comments can move markets within seconds.

A new asset class: political information

The launch also reflects a broader shift in financial markets, where politics has become an increasingly important driver of asset prices.

Many global hedge funds now employ political analysts and geopolitical specialists alongside economists and sector analysts. Elections, trade disputes, sanctions, fiscal policy and diplomatic developments increasingly influence investment decisions.

By licensing faster access to Trump's posts, TMTG is effectively packaging political information as a premium financial product.

A new revenue stream

For Trump Media, the service also represents an attempt to diversify beyond advertising and subscriptions in an intensely competitive social media industry.

Whether enough trading firms will pay six-figure monthly fees remains to be seen. But the proposal underscores a simple reality of modern financial markets: information has value, and information delivered even a few seconds earlier can be worth paying a premium for.

In that sense, TMTG is not merely selling access to social media posts. It is attempting to monetise one of Wall Street's most valuable commodities—time.
