What is the story about?
Greenland’s prime minister said any discussions on future arrangements involving the Arctic territory must respect its sovereignty, constitutional position and right to self-determination, underlining that these remain non-negotiable red lines.
Speaking on Greenland’s role in the evolving global order, the prime minister said the territory—part of the Kingdom of Denmark—continues to take the security situation in the Arctic seriously and is committed to maintaining peace through cooperation.
“Our goal and wish is to continue a peaceful dialogue based on cooperation, with respect for our constitutional position, international law, the right to our country and the right to self-determination,” the prime minister said, adding that Greenland was not aware of the details of any deal currently being discussed.

While signalling openness to deeper engagement, the prime minister made it clear that sovereignty could not be compromised. “We have our red lines; our sovereignty must be respected,” the statement said.
The prime minister said Greenland was ready to cooperate further and negotiate a stronger partnership with the United States, but stressed that any talks must be conducted in mutual respect, with sovereignty remaining a firm red line.
In the latest development, US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he would not proceed with the additional 10% tariff threat against European allies that he had flagged over the weekend. The tariffs were scheduled to take effect from February 1.

“This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America and all NATO nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect from February 1,” Trump wrote.
The president added that further discussions are underway regarding the Golden Dome as it relates to Greenland, with more information to be shared as talks progress.
