Earthquake of magnitude 8.2 strikes Philippines, Tsunami threat issued

An earthquake of magnitude 8.2 struck Mindanao in the Philippines on Monday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), GFZ said.

GFZ earlier pegged the earthquake at 7.3. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat for the earthquake.

Indonesia's weather agency holds a press conference after an earthquake struck off Mindanao in the southern Philippines, triggering tsunami warnings from both the Philippines and neighbouring Indonesia.
