India's foreign minister S Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi on Friday, May 15.
Held on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting 2026, Jaishankar and Araghchi met to discuss the Iran war and West Asia crisis.
"Had a detailed conversation with FM Abbas Araghchi of Iran this morning in Delhi," Jaishankar said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
"Discussed the situation in West Asia and its implications. Also exchanged views on bilateral issues of mutual interest," he added.
While the details of the meeting have not been publicly disclosed yet, both the leaders have reportedly discussed peace in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz situation.
Araghchi's visit to India amid Iran-US war
The Iranian foreign minister is on a three-day visit to India to participate at the BRICS Summit.
He attended the BRICS FMM on May 15 and said that Iran has been attacked twice by the United States in a single year and is a victim of an "expansionist mindset".
He later met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.
Araghchi has also held bilateral meetings with several of his counterparts on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. He met foreign ministers of Egypt, Russia, Thailand and Malaysia among others.
