What is the story about?
There have been several dramatic turns overnight in efforts to bring the West Asia war to an end. With Iran firm on its demands out of a peace deal, President Donald Trump now said he "couldn't care less" if the negotiations fail. He also reportedly fumed at Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for intensifying attacks on Lebanon, which further challenged negotiations with Tehran.
Publicly, the US President said he spoke with both Netanyahu and Hezbollah and that the shooting would stop in Lebanon. "...there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back," he wrote.
In an exclusive interaction with CNBC, Trump also dismissed concerns over the recent spike in crude prices, saying Americans would be willing to pay more at the pump if it meant stopping Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The developments followed Iran's claim that exchanges of messages with the US would be halted in response to Israel's strikes on Lebanon.
Despite that, Trump said negotiations with the Islamic Republic were continuing at a "rapid pace".
According to Axios, Trump privately lashed out at the Israeli leader after Israel intensified its military operations in Lebanon, reportedly telling Netanyahu that Israel's actions were undermining international support for the country.
“You're f****** crazy. You'd be in prison if it weren't for me. I'm saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this," Trump reportedly told Netanyahu.
