Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held bilateral talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday, September 12, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Sheikh Khaled is heading the United Arab Emirates delegation at the two-day summit.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the summit hosted by India under its 2026 chairship from September 12 to 13 at Bharat Mandapam. The summit convenes world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with core discussions zeroing in on resilience across food, energy, healthcare, disaster reduction, and critical supply chains amid intensifying global geopolitical and economic crosscurrents.
President Pezeshkian arrived in the national capital on Friday (September 11) for his first visit to India as president. The trip comes amid heightened regional tensions in West Asia and recent economic measures imposed by the United States against Tehran.
Ahead of his departure from Tehran, Pezeshkian called for greater economic resilience within BRICS and urged member states to reduce dependence on the US dollar. Iran, which formally joined the bloc in 2024, has actively pushed to deepen economic and trade cooperation across the multilateral alliance.
