What is the story about?
A Gwalior court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for the murder of her five-year-old son. The incident dates back to April 2023, when the victim,
Jatin, saw his mother, Jyoti, in a compromising situation with her lover, Uday. Fearing that her son would expose her extramarital relationship to her husband - police constable Dhyan Singh Rathore - Jyoti decided to kill him. According to prosecutors, Jyoti pushed Jatin from the roof of a two-storey building. The boy was rushed to hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
Case Initially Treated As Accident
Initially, the child's death was treated as an accident. However, police said that the circumstances surrounding his death continued to raise doubts. As per a NDTV report, Jyoti reportedly broke down and confessed the crime to her husband.
By then, Dhyan Singh Rathore had also begun to suspect that his son's death was not an accident.
Rathore recorded several audio and video conversations in which Jyoti admitted her role. He also secured CCTV footage from cameras installed at their residence.
Armed with this material, Rathore approached the police and lodged a formal complaint, prompting a fresh probe into the case.
Jyoti’s Lover Named Accused But Later Acquitted
Following the complaint, police registered a case and named both Jyoti and Uday as accused. A charge sheet was later filed, and the matter went to trial.
The court found Jyoti guilty on the basis of the evidence presented and sentenced her to life imprisonment.
However, Uday was acquitted, with the court citing insufficient evidence to establish his involvement in the crime.
