New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday removed illegal stalls, temporary structures and obstructions from roads and footpaths in the Qutub Institutional Area during an anti-encroachment
drive, officials said.
The action was undertaken in the Hauz Khas ward by a joint team of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD’s) South Zone and the Public Works Department (PWD), with assistance from local police authorities.
According to officials, the drive covered stretches along the Qutub Institutional Area road in South Delhi.
Several unauthorised structures have come up on roadsides and footpaths, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and traffic movement, they said.
During the operation, JCB machines were used to dismantle temporary sheds, platforms and other encroachments. Authorities also removed illegal structures adjoining the boundary walls of educational institutions and parks in the area. Shop items were seized during the exercise, the civic body said.
"Encroachments on roads and footpaths create inconvenience for commuters and residents. Such drives will continue in different parts of the city to ensure public areas remain obstruction-free," MCD South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar said.
He said the joint action was aimed at reclaiming government land and ensuring that public spaces remain free from unauthorised occupation. PTI MSJ ASD ASD
