Mumbai, Apr 23 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said the state is emerging as a "global investment hub" driven by industry-friendly policies, and that it remains a preferred
destination for foreign investors.
Fadnavis made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, ambassador of Denmark in India at his official residence 'Varsha' in south Mumbai, where the two sides discussed opportunities in ports, shipping, energy and water management, an official release said.
Calling Maharashtra the "growth engine" of the country, the chief minister said proactive policy measures have helped attract global companies and strengthened the state's position in the international investment landscape.
During the meeting, Fadnavis briefed the Danish delegation on the proposed Vadhvan Port in Palghar district, describing it as a transformative project that could boost India's maritime capacity and enhance logistics and export competitiveness.
He also said the state was working on an ambitious water transport push, including plans for water taxis and electric ferries, with a focus on building an integrated and well-regulated system. Maharashtra is keen to partner with leading Danish firms for electric ferry and water taxi technologies, he added.
Kristensen noted that Denmark has successfully deployed electric technology in coastal and short-distance ferry services, which could be replicated along the Mumbai-Konkan coastline. He also said that around 60 Danish companies are currently operating in and around Mumbai and Pune across sectors, such as manufacturing, retail, services and shipping.
He expressed confidence that Maharashtra could play a key role under the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, particularly in the maritime sector, the release said. PTI MR NP
