Mumbai, Apr 23 (PTI) A 30-year-old labourer died after falling from the 20th floor of an under-construction building in Mumbai, following which police registered a case against the contractor and two others
for alleged negligence, an official said on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Evershine Nagar area in the western suburb of Malad (West), he said.
Victim Manoj Ghurhu Gupta was trying to board an elevator to descend from the 20th floor of the under-construction building after completing his work shift, said the official from Bangur Nagar police station.
It appears that due to lack of safety measures at the site and poor lighting conditions, he lost his balance and fell through a gap between the elevator shaft and the adjacent wall. He sustained severe injuries and died as a result, the official said.
A case was registered against the contractor, site supervisor and safety supervisor for negligence after allegedly failing to provide adequate safety measures at the site, an official said, adding that an investigation is underway. PTI ZA NR
