Chandigarh, Apr 1 (PTI) Flight operations from Halwara Airport near Ludhiana will commence from May 15, 2026 with booking expected to open soon, officials said on Wednesday.
Initially, two Air India flights
will connect Ludhiana with Delhi, fulfilling a long-pending demand of over 30 years, they said.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, along with his wife, is expected to take the inaugural flight from Delhi to Halwara on May 15, marking a significant milestone.
The development follows sustained efforts to boost regional connectivity and accelerate economic growth in Ludhiana and nearby districts.
The state government, under the leadership of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, played a key role in expediting the long-pending project.
Officials said the operationalisation of Halwara airport is expected to boost trade, industry and tourism, while improving travel convenience for residents and the business community.
It will also enhance connectivity for exporters, industrialists and entrepreneurs, further strengthening Ludhiana's position as a major economic hub, they added.
Arora thanked all stakeholders, government agencies, and industry leaders for their support, saying the project marks a significant step towards linking Punjab with national and global economic corridors. PTI VSD TRB
