Mumbai, May 5 (PTI) The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the BJP's victory in the assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam.
The cabinet
also felicitated state Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar for winning the Baramati bypoll with a record margin, sources said.
The BJP registered landslide victories in West Bengal and Assam assembly polls, the results of which were declared on Monday.
The saffron party secured a decisive majority in the 294-member West Bengal assembly by winning 207 seats, ending the Trinamool Congress' 15-year rule in the state. In Assam, the NDA swept to a third successive term by clinching 102 seats in the 126-member state assembly. The BJP won 82 seats, while its allies AGP and Bodoland People's Front bagged 10 each.
Sunetra Pawar, who took oath as Deputy CM of Maharashtra just three days after her husband Ajit Pawar's death in a plane crash in January amid political pulls and pressure, scored a record win in the bypoll from Baramati, riding on legacy and sympathy in the debut assembly contest. She secured 2,18,969 votes and won by a margin of 2,18,034.
Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan moved the resolution congratulating PM Modi for the BJP's victories in assembly polls in West Bengal and Assam.
The issue of poor state of tribal ashram schools was also discussed with several ministers putting forth their views on their dilapidated state, the sources said.
The BJP shares power with Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra. PTI MR NP
