Mumbai, May 27 (PTI) The Maharashtra Congress held a protest in Mumbai on Wednesday, accusing the BJP-led government of burdening the common man with steep hikes in petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG prices.
Staging the protest outside the party office in Dadar, Congress state president Harshwardhan Sapkal said the Centre has pushed inflation-hit citizens further into hardship through rising fuel prices.
Congress workers raised slogans against the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Speaking to the media, Sapkal said, “There is no petrol, no diesel; LPG cylinders are missing; fuel prices have skyrocketed; farmers are not getting fair prices for their produce; and the public is distressed.”
Yet the BJP government remains indifferent, he alleged. “Ever since PM Modi came to power, he has been burdening the people of the nation,” said Sapkal.
He also accused Fadnavis of lying over the issue.
“If Fadnavis believes there is an adequate stock of petrol and diesel, then why are people standing in long queues at petrol pumps in the afternoon heat? If the government believes hoarding is taking place, then strict action should be taken,” Sapkal added.
During the protest, party workers also distributed ‘Melody’ chocolates. PTI MR NR
