Thane, May 29 (PTI) The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a statewide crackdown on misleading medicinal advertisements and misbranded drugs, and seized Ayurvedic and allopathic
drug stocks valued at Rs 73.24 lakh, an official release said here on Friday.
The drive, launched at the instructions of newly appointed FDA commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, targeted medical shops and other establishments violating the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, it said.
Several establishments were found to be marketing products claiming guaranteed cures, miraculous results or offering prohibited medical treatments for serious diseases, the release said.
Stocks worth Rs 18,58,000 were seized in the Konkan division, followed the seizure of stock worth Rs 14.68 lakh in Pune, Rs 7.26 lakh in Nagpur, Rs 7.10 lakh in Nashik, Rs 1.85 lakh in Mumbai, and smaller amounts in Amravati and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The Pune division seized a massive haul of misbranded allopathic drugs worth Rs 21,83,428, the release said.
"No concession will be granted to anyone playing with public health. Legal action against misleading advertisements and illegal drug manufacturing will become more stringent," said Mundhe in the release. PTI COR KRK
