Kolkata, May 30 (PTI) Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday held discussions with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on strengthening Centre-state cooperation
and expediting development in the urban infrastructure and power sectors.
Khattar also launched the 'Swachha App' project at New Town along with Adhikari and state Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul. Through the app, people can report littering in any public space, and the civic authorities will clean it immediately.
In a post on social media after the meeting, the Union minister said he held detailed discussions with the chief minister, the state minister and senior officials on issues related to the power, housing and urban affairs sectors.
"Our deliberations focused on strengthening Centre-state collaboration and accelerating efforts to improve urban infrastructure, sanitation, public service delivery and power sector development across the state," said Khattar, who also holds the Power portfolio.
Describing the 'Swachha App' as a significant step towards enhancing citizen participation in urban governance, he said the initiative would leverage technology to advance the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Under the pilot phase, 10 urban local bodies in West Bengal will be covered. These include the municipal corporations of Asansol and Durgapur, and the municipalities of Basirhat, Pujali, Tufanganj, Contai, Krishnanagar, Nalhati, Baidyabati and Madhyamgram. PTI AMR SOM
