Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, May 14 (PTI) The ASI plans to make the world-famous Ajanta and Ellora caves here in Maharashtra more tourist-friendly, with priority given to adding amenities and stabilising
boulders at Ajanta to prevent rockfalls, an official said.
Plans are also afoot to attract tourists to various other monuments located in the region, Archeaological Survey of India (ASI) Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar circle's newly appointed superintending archaeologist Arun Malik told PTI on Wednesday.
The circle comprises 78 monuments and covers eight districts of the Marathwada region, as well as Ahilyanagar (located in western-central Maharashtra) and Nashik district in North Maharashtra.
"We intend to make the Ajanta and Ellora cave complexes more tourist-friendly, and we will add more amenities for this. Ajanta and Ellora will be our priority. We will undertake boulder stabilisation work in the Ajanta cave complex so the rocks do not fall," Malik said.
The region has many monuments that have the capacity to attract tourists, he noted.
"These include the Anjaneri temples group and Gondeshwar temple at Sinnar (in Nashik). Works will be taken up at many such monuments in the circle region," he added. PTI AW GK
