Latur, June 1 (PTI) The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Rs 56.74 crore for the comprehensive development of the Latur Airport with the annual expenditure of Rs 37.78 lakh for regular operations,
BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar said on Monday.
The decision fulfils a commitment made by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to the people of Latur regarding the airport's expansion and modernisation, the Ausa MLA stated in a release.
According to officials, the sanctioned funds will be utilised for several key infrastructure projects, including the development of a Runway End Safety Area (RESA), construction of a 3.38-km security wall, an 8-km peripheral road, strengthening and improvement of the runway, installation of night-landing facilities, renovation of the fire station, emergency services centre and anti-hijacking room, and deployment of an advanced CCTV surveillance system.
The proposed upgrades are expected to significantly enhance airport safety, operational efficiency and passenger convenience. The introduction of night-landing facilities is likely to pave the way for future night flight operations, improving Latur's air connectivity with major cities across the country.
