Raipur, Apr 21 (PTI) More than 4.19 lakh people were screened in a week under a major health outreach campaign in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division, aimed at strengthening medical services in remote areas,
officials said on Tuesday.
The "Mukhyamantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan", launched on April 13 by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai from Sukma district, seeks to make healthcare more accessible in the region's far-flung pockets, a government statement said.
Bastar region comprises seven districts — Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Bastar, Bijapur, Sukma and Dantewada.
Medical teams have so far screened more than 4,19,898 people by reaching remote villages under the drive, providing free diagnostic tests, medicines and treatment on the spot, it said.
As many as 4,272 patients have been referred to higher medical institutions for specialised treatment, the statement said.
Coordination has been established among primary and community health centres, district hospitals, medical colleges and super-speciality institutions.
Mobile medical units and regular health camps have been playing a key role in reaching remote areas, it said.
Under the campaign, digital health profiles (ABHA - Ayushman Bharat Health Account) of beneficiaries are also being created to ensure continuity of care and better health management in the future, while aiding early detection and effective treatment of diseases, it said.
State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that teams have been visiting villages to ensure health screening and timely treatment.
The initiative is expected to improve healthcare facilities and give a new direction to health services in Bastar, it said. PTI TKP ARU
