Jaipur, Mar 29 (PTI) A man and his nephew drowned in the Meja dam in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place near Sameliya village under Mandal police station limits,
Station House Officer Ayush Shrotriya said.
Dalchand (25) had gone to graze cattle at the dam along with his nephew Bhairu alias Hariom (11). During this time, a buffalo entered deep water, and both of them stepped into the dam in an attempt to rescue the cattle.
Police said the duo could not gauge the depth of the water and drowned.
Hearing their cries, people working in nearby fields rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them, but failed.
Divers were later called in and, after nearly an hour of efforts, recovered the bodies from the water, police said.
The bodies were shifted to the mortuary of the Mandal sub-district hospital, they added. PTI AG HIG
