Mangaluru (Karnataka), Apr 2 (PTI) Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways will operate special bi-weekly charter flights between Kuwait and Mangaluru via Dammam from April 8, officials said.
The Directorate General
of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted permission for the limited charter operations, which will run twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.
According to officials, passengers travelling from Kuwait will first be transported by road to Dammam in Saudi Arabia, a journey of approximately six hours.
The route will include a halt at the Kuwait-Saudi border for mandatory immigration and security checks before proceeding to Dammam airport for onward travel to Mangaluru.
The same procedure will be followed on the return leg, with passengers travelling by road from Dammam to Kuwait after completing border formalities, officials added.
According to sources, flight J9 3417 will depart Kuwait at 8.40 am (local time) and arrive in Mangaluru at 4.10 pm IST. The return flight, J9 3418, will depart Mangaluru at 4.55 pm IST and arrive in Kuwait at 7.40 pm (local time).
The airline had earlier operated similar charter services to Mangaluru during the Covid-19 pandemic to facilitate passenger movement amid restrictions.
Sources said the airline is also exploring the possibility of increasing the frequency of these services from two to four flights per week, subject to regulatory approvals. PTI COR AMP SSK
