New Delhi, Mar 17 (PTI) Experts on Tuesday emphasised the importance of natural diets, gut health and balanced nutrition in promoting longevity and healthy ageing, noting that everyday food choices play
a key role in preventing chronic inflammation and lifestyle diseases.
The observations were made during an interactive session titled “The Longevity Blueprint – Gut Health and InflammAgeing”, organised by the Illness to Wellness Foundation in association with the Celiac Society of India at the India International Centre here, an official statement said.
The session brought together experts from geriatrics, psychiatry, nutrition, integrated medicine and ayurveda, who discussed the growing link between gut health, chronic inflammation and ageing.
They highlighted the concept of “inflammageing”, a condition of persistent low-grade inflammation that accelerates ageing and contributes to several health conditions.
Clinical nutritionist Ishi Khosla said most essential nutrients are available in everyday food and stressed the need for mindful eating.
“By focusing on wholesome, balanced meals, we can significantly improve gut health and reduce inflammation. Small, mindful changes in daily food choices can go a long way in supporting overall wellbeing and healthier ageing,” she said.
Dr Prasun Chatterjee, Chief of Geriatric Medicine, said longevity should not be seen merely as living longer but as living healthier lives.
“Our traditional Indian diet, when consumed in the right balance, can provide the nutrition the body needs. The gut plays a central role in maintaining overall health,” he said.
The experts also suggested practical lifestyle measures such as including fibre-rich and fermented foods in daily diets, consuming diverse plant-based foods rich in phytonutrients, and practising periodic fasting in a balanced manner to support gut health.
Moderating the session, Dr Arjun Dang said simple dietary and lifestyle choices can significantly influence long-term health outcomes and help prevent chronic conditions.
Anil Rajput of the Illness to Wellness Foundation said, “The foundation of long-term health lies in balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices. People need to be more mindful of their daily choices and the role of gut health in overall wellbeing.”
Experts concluded that healthy ageing begins with consistent lifestyle choices and that prioritising gut health through balanced nutrition can help promote long-term health and vitality. PTI SGV NB
