New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Days after multiple spells of rain brought respite from heat waves in the national capital, the city saw a rise in mercury on Friday, with the Safdarjung station recording 36.4 degrees
Celsius, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The day temperature settled at 34.4 degrees Celsius at Palam, five notches below normal, while Lodi Road and Ridge recorded maximums of 34.2 and 34.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Ayanagar saw mercury touching 35.1 degrees Celsius, a drop of over five degrees from what is usual for this time of the year.
Earlier in the morning, temperatures remained comfortable. The minimum settled at 22.6 degrees Celsius at the base station, Safdarjung, while Palam recorded 20.7 degrees Celsius.
The Ridge area was the coolest, recording 20 degrees Celsius, a significant 5.5 degrees below normal.
According to IMD, no rainfall was reported from any part of the city. Data showed 24-hour cumulative rainfall till 8:30 am as nil, with no showers recorded between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm either.
Delhi's 24-hour average air quality was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category with the air quality index (AQI) clocked at 100, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
IMD has forecast a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius with mainly a clear sky.
The weather office also forecasts thunderstorms and rain for May 11 and 12, with a yellow alert in place. PTI VBH VBH KSI
