A preparatory meeting to deliberate on long-pending issues faced by all exam boards schools and all mediums educational institutions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region was held on January 10, 2026, at the Children
Welfare Centre, Andheri. The meeting was convened under the initiative of the Mahamumbai Shikshan Sanstha Sanghatana, Mumbai & Thane with the objective of determining future policy direction and collective action.
The meeting witnessed detailed discussions on several critical issues, including implementation of 25 per cent admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the long-pending reimbursement of fees, compulsory installation of CCTV systems in private unaided schools without any financial assistance, and the irregular annual ten per cent rent hike imposed on unaided schools operating in municipal school buildings.
Other key matters discussed included the demand for uniform non-salary grants in accordance with existing pay scales for all schools, and challenges arising from the use of school land under the new Public-Private Partnership (PPP) educational plots policy of bmc. It was resolved to seek judicial remedies through appropriate legal channels wherever necessary.
The meeting also deliberated on the requirement of No Objection Certificates (NOC) for new appointments if teachers, violations of court directives related to assigning BLO and other non-educational duties to teachers during election periods, and the demand that electricity, water and other taxes for schools be levied at domestic rates.
Further discussions covered provisions under the National Education Policy, including appointments of art, sports, music, computer teachers and counsellors, the Teacher Eligibility Test, and the mandatory review process imposed on minority institutions.
It was unanimously decided to seek appointments with the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Maharashtra to present these pending demands and seek their immediate resolution.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various educational bodies, including Maharashtra State Education Institutions Federation, Archdiocese of Bombay Group, Unaided Schools Forum (Mumbai), National Independent Schools Alliance, Brihanmumbai Secondary and Higher Secondary Principals’ Association, Shikshak Bharati, Maharashtra shikshak sena, Mumbai City Teachers Development Board, and other private school management and trustee organisations.
Around 150 trustees from Mumbai, suburban regions, Mira–Bhayandar, Thane and Panvel were present.
