New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in Parliament. In her 1 hour and 25-minute-long (85-minute) speech, the phrase ‘Income Tax’ featured the most
number of times, at 40. The word ‘services’ was mentioned 34 times and ‘AI’, used as a standalone term, featured 12 times.
The Modi government’s ambitious vision to transform the nation into a fully developed, self-reliant, and prosperous country by 2047, ‘Viksit Bharat’, was referenced eight times during the address. The word ‘tourism’ was also used eight times.
‘Infrastructure’ was mentioned 15 times in the speech. The word ‘reforms’ featured six times, while ‘women’ appeared five times. Notably, the word ‘tax’ was used 65 times in her 2025 speech.
The highest usage of the word ‘tax’ between 2019 and 2025 was in 2020, when the word was featured 232 times. The word ‘income’ appeared 61 times in that year’s speech and ‘development’ featured 52 times.
Exemption on Basic Customs Duty on Cancer Drugs
Making cancer treatment more affordable, the Union Budget 2026–27 on Sunday announced the exemption of basic customs duty on 17 cancer-related drugs and medicines, offering significant relief to patients and their families.
