The Western Railway Civil Defence Organization celebrated the Civil Defence Annual Day on Thursday, 11th December, 2025 at the Western Railway Sports Ground, Mahalaxmi. Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager,
Western Railway, presided over the function and unfurled the Civil Defence flag on the occasion. He also addressed the gathering of railway officials, Civil Defence volunteers, staff and their families present at the event. He exhorted the Civil Defence Volunteers to continue contributing substantially towards community capacity building and assisting people in times of crisis.
According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, the observance commenced with a ceremonial parade comprising nine contingents, including an all-women contingent. This was followed by a series of Civil Defence demonstrations showcasing rescue and relief techniques used during emergencies such as airstrikes and bomb blasts. A special fire drill using a Fire-Ball was carried out to demonstrate methods of extinguishing fire inside a coach. A nukkad natak was also presented to spread the message of cleanliness in railway premises and the importance of avoiding trespassing. An exhibition of Civil Defence tools, equipment and preparedness activities was organized at the venue, reflecting the depth of Western Railway’s Civil Defence capabilities.
In his address, Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager, Western Railway, appreciated the dedication of the Civil Defence Volunteers and encouraged them to continue contributing to community capacity building and crisis assistance. The message of the Hon’ble President of India on the occasion was also read out. The event was organized under the guidance of Ujjwal Deo, Deputy General Manager (G) & Controller of Civil Defence, Western Railway.
Western Railway reiterates its commitment to strengthening civil defence preparedness and fostering a culture of safety, resilience and community support across the Railway network.
