Konkan Railway’s network spans 739 route kilometres from Roha in Maharashtra to Thokur in Karnataka, of which the entire stretch through Goa forms a critical operational segment. The section is predominantly
single line, complemented by strategically developed double-line stretches between Roha–Veer (47 km) and Madgaon–Majorda (8 km) to enhance capacity and train handling. With 1003 track kilometres and 72 stations, the system is supported by one of the most challenging yet remarkable engineering corridors in the country.
The line features 91 tunnels with a combined length of 84.50 km, including the longest at 6.5 km, resulting in 11.45% of the route running through tunnels. Additionally, the route comprises 1,891 bridges, providing a cumulative 25.40 km of linear waterway, including 190 major bridges, along with 378 ROB’s / RUBs that ensure seamless connectivity. The terrain further includes a total of 563 cuttings spanning 223.8 km, showcasing the scale of excavation and engineering expertise involved. Safety is reinforced through 87 manned level crossing gates, while train operations are supported by a ruling gradient of 1:150 across the ghat sections. Importantly, the entire route is fully electrified, with 42% of the track running through tunnels or cuttings, a testament to the technical resilience and operational capability of Konkan Railway.
Konkan Railway continues to prioritise passenger comfort, convenience, and safety across its network. On average, during 2024–25, 55 passenger trains and 17 freight trains were run daily, totaling 20,056 passenger trips and 6,170 freight trips. To manage peak travel periods, special trains are regularly deployed during festivals and seasonal rushes. In 2024–25 alone, 178 special trains were operated during the summer season, 304 during Ganapati celebrations, 94 in winter, and 554 on other occasions. For 2025–26, the planned schedule includes 185 summer specials, 381 for Ganapati, approximately 114 for winter, and 376 for other periods.
