In a significant move toward sustainable urban logistics and national commemoration, the Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, organized a multi-faceted event on Wednesday at the Mumbai General Post Office
(GPO). The ceremony featured the official rollout of 200 electric vehicles for postal staff and the release of a Special Postal Cover honoring the historic 1971 Battle of Longewala.

Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle released a Special Postal Cover on the occasion of rolling out 200 e-bikes for Postmen staff and handed over first album to Smt. Amruta Fadnavis. India Post has been a trusted pillar of last-mile delivery for decades. To further strengthen this, the Mumbai Region, Maharashtra Postal Circle has introduced mechanized delivery through e-bikes by deploying 200 electric two-wheelers under its mechanized delivery initiative. E-bike-enabled delivery enhances operational efficiency, reduces delivery time, and minimizes physical strain on delivery staff. The shift to electric mobility promotes sustainable, low-emission operations while reinforcing reliable, modern, and citizen-centric postal services in urban areas.
Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle also released a Special Postal Cover commemorating the 1971 Battle of Longewala, where the 23 PUNJAB regiment and the IAF’s 122 Squadron heroically thwarted a massive Pakistani offensive. Cinematic Tribute: The Special Cover features imagery associated with the upcoming feature film ‘Border 2’, bridging the gap between historical tribute and modern cultural storytelling.
The event also saw the launch of the “SANDESE VEERON KO” Postcard Campaign, encouraging citizens to send messages of gratitude to the nation's bravehearts.
Promoting Letter Writing, India Post has Launched “SANDESE VEERON KO” Postcard Campaign. Under this noble initiative, members of the public and students are invited to compose messages of gratitude and support on postcards. These heartfelt tokens of appreciation will be collected and efficiently delivered to our brave soldiers through the established postal network of India Post. This campaign serves as a vital bridge, leveraging traditional communication methods to connect a grateful nation with its armed forces, providing a meaningful boost to soldier morale and reinforcing national solidarity.
The Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, Amitabh Singh, addressed audience that Traditional letter posting work has decreased, while parcel volume has increased "manifold". To cater to the increased parcel load efficiently and sustainably, the department has provided postman staff with e-bikes, initiative is part of a "Smart Mobility Initiative" and a move towards green, efficient, and mechanized delivery services in Mumbai.
Smt. Amruta Fadnavis, addressed audience and emphasized regarding the empowerment of women. This environmental friendly step of India Post will be providing efficient and eco-friendly services, leveraging its status as an oldest and honest department. At the end of Program, she flagged off e-bikes in Mumbai GPO.
