Mumbai airport witnessed major disruption on Thursday (December 4) as IndiGo Airlines confirmed large-scale cancellations, affecting both departures and arrivals. As per the official update released on Friday
(December 5) at 11.28 am, a total of 104 flights were cancelled for December 5 between 12.01 am and 11.59 pm. This included 53 departing flights and 51 arrivals. Passengers were seen struggling across terminals with long queues at airline counters and repeated delays in information updates.
The cancellations triggered widespread inconvenience for domestic travellers, with many flights to key cities either grounded or rescheduled at short notice.
Chaos at Terminals as Passengers Seek Clarity
Scenes of confusion prevailed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport through the morning as stranded passengers sought assistance. Several flyers said they received late night or early morning messages regarding cancellations, leaving limited time to make alternate arrangements. Help desks remained crowded as travellers demanded refunds, rebookings and explanations.
With the airport being one of the busiest in the country, the sudden spike in cancelled flights led to crowding at security checks and airline offices, further stretching airport staff.
Akasa Air Issues Advisory Amid Technical Glitch
In the midst of the chaos, Akasa Air issued a travel advisory warning passengers about intermittent technical issues affecting its website and mobile application. The airline stated that its online services including booking, check in and manage booking features could be temporarily impacted.
Passengers with immediate travel plans were advised to reach the airport early to complete check in at airline counters. They were also asked to contact the Akasa Care Centre for assistance. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and said its teams were working with the service provider to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Flyers Urged to Plan Ahead
Airlines have urged passengers travelling through Mumbai to regularly check their flight status before leaving for the airport and to arrive well in advance due to possible operational delays. Industry observers say a combination of operational bottlenecks and technical issues has added to the stress of year end travel.
As of now, IndiGo has stated that further updates on cancellations will be shared if there are additional changes in the schedule.
