Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), successfully conducted a rail car inspection from Vaitarna to JNPT Port, the starting point of the Western
Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) recently, covering a distance of approximately 102 kms. This historic inspection marks the first-ever movement on the newly constructed DFCCIL track of the JNPT–Vaitarna Section, a critical segment of the WDFC under the jurisdiction of the CGM/Mumbai Unit of DFCCIL. The successful completion of this rail car inspection represents a significant milestone towards the commissioning of the JNPT–Vaitarna (102 km) section. Once fully commissioned, the section will substantially enhance freight connectivity between India’s hinterland and JNPT Port, reaffirming DFCCIL’s commitment to developing world-class freight infrastructure.
Out of the total stretch, the Vaitarna to New Kharbao section (30 kms) has already been fully electrified, with a successful electric locomotive trial run conducted on 30 November 2025. Electrification and signalling works on the remaining stretch are progressing rapidly and are scheduled for completion shortly.
Anurag Sharma, Director (Infrastructure), Sandesh Srivastava, Executive Director (Projects), Vikas Kumar, Chief General Manager (Mumbai), Senior officials of the DFCCIL Mumbai Unit, representatives from executing agencies (M/s Tata Projects, M/s L&T, M/s KPIL), and other consultants were also present during the inspection.
