startup ecosystem, the state is creating an integrated innovation ecosystem where research is not confined to laboratories, but translated into patents, enterprises, employment, and global competitiveness. The real strength of Maharashtra lies in its ability to connect knowledge with opportunity and innovation with impact,” said Dr. P. Anbalagan, IAS, Principal Secretary (Industries, Investment and Services Department), Government of Maharashtra, at the Research Scholars’ Summit on Employment, Entrepreneurship and Startup Opportunities organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) in Mumbai.
The inaugural session was attended by Ms. Aarti Kuchibhatla, Vice Chairperson, CII Maharashtra State, Mr. Bharat Agarwal, Chairman – CII WR Taskforce on Education and President, Vishwakarma University, Prof. U. Kamachi Mudali, Vice Chancellor, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mr. Martin Mascarenhas, Director, Beam Technology Development Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre & Chairman, Atal Incubation Centre, BARC Anushakti Foundation; and Dr. Alpa Antani, Regional Director – Western Region, CII.
The CII–HBNI Summit brought together senior leaders from industry, Government, academia, and research institutions to deliberate on the growing need to transform research and innovation into scalable economic and social impact. Speakers emphasised the importance of stronger academia-industry collaboration to accelerate employment generation, entrepreneurship, startup development, and innovation-led growth.
The summit assumes significance at a time when Maharashtra is further strengthening its position as a leading hub for innovation, research, and enterprise development. Experts highlighted that mentorship, incubation support, funding access, and industry exposure for research scholars and young innovators can play a pivotal role in creating new enterprises, generating skilled employment, and enhancing global competitiveness.
The summit also created a strong platform for industry to engage with emerging research talent, foster innovation-driven collaborations, identify scalable technologies, and strengthen academia-industry partnerships for future workforce and enterprise development.
