Superstar Rajinikanth is marking a monumental milestone, 50 years in the film industry, cementing his legacy as one of Indian cinema's most revered icons. The celebrations come just days before the release
of his much-anticipated film Coolie, and wishes have been pouring in from his colleagues, fans, and industry veterans.
Among the most notable tributes is from Rajinikanth's long-time friend and contemporary, Kamal Haasan. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the actor-politician shared a picture with Rajinikanth and wrote, "Marking half a century of cinematic brilliance, my dear friend @rajinikanth celebrates 50 glorious years in cinema today. I celebrate our Super Star with affection and admiration, and wish #Coolie resounding global success befitting this golden jubilee."
Haasan also opened up about their decades-long camaraderie. Praising the team of Coolie, he wrote, "Helmed by the powerhouse @Dir_Lokesh, backed by the pillar of our industry Kalanithi Maran @sunpictures, enriched by the ever-inventive @anirudhofficial, and brought to life by my long-time friends #Sathyaraj, @iamnagarjuna, #AamirKhan, @nimmaupendra, and #SoubinShahir."
The veteran actor-politician didn’t forget to give a special mention to his daughter, Shruti Haasan, who plays a key role in the film. "A special cheer to my darling daughter @shrutihaasan, keep shining bright," he wrote.

50 years of Rajinikanth
Rajinikanth’s journey began in 1975 with K Balachander’s Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal. Over the next five decades, he became one of Tamil cinema’s biggest superstars, delivering massive hits such as Sivaji: The Boss, Enthiran (Robot), 2.0, Thalapathy, and the recent blockbuster Jailer.
Known for his unique screen presence, charismatic style, and ability to reinvent himself across generations, Rajinikanth has built an unmatched fan following in India and beyond.
He was last seen in Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati.
Now, all eyes are on Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, slated for release on August 14. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti, and Soubin, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
