Delhi's air quality continued to deteriorate on Saturday, remaining in the "poor" category for the fifth consecutive day, with nine monitoring stations falling in the red zone of the "very poor" category as pollution levels spiked ahead of Diwali.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 268 at 4 pm on Saturday, October 18, placing it in the "poor" category.
Within the NCR region, Ghaziabad recorded a "very poor" AQI of 324, while Noida and Gurugram remained in the "poor" category with AQIs of 298 and 258, respectively.
The national capital on Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of 19.6 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees above the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Relative humidity was recorded at 87 per cent at 8.30 am, on October 18. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
The weather department has forecast mist and fog on Saturday and Sunday.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
Delhi’s air quality has remained in the ‘Poor’ category for the fifth consecutive day. Nine monitoring stations have recorded pollution levels in the red zone ahead of Diwali.
