US President Donald Trump’s journey to the World Economic Forum was briefly derailed after a technical malfunction forced Air Force One to abort its flight
to Switzerland. Shortly after departing for Davos, the presidential aircraft was forced to make a sharp U-turn and return to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland after the crew identified a "minor electrical issue" mid-flight. Trump is scheduled to attend the annual meeting from January 19 to January 23, 2026, with his main address planned for Wednesday, January 21. The WEF Annual Meeting 2026 is being held under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue” and is expected to draw nearly 3,000 participants from more than 130 countries. Trump’s appearance at Davos has drawn attention as he plans to address domestic economic issues, including housing costs, at one of the world’s most exclusive international forums. In recent remarks marking his return to office, Trump said his policies had strengthened US security and helped prevent wider global conflicts. He has also made strong statements on tariffs, NATO, the United Nations, and international disputes in recent weeks. Trump's address is also closley watched as this is the first global address of US President following his 10 per cent tariff threat starting in February on goods from eight European countries because of their opposition to America's control of Greenland. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland would face the tariff, which would climb to 25 percent on June 1 if a deal is not in place for 'the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland' by the United States. Trump claimed the move is necessary for national security, citing China's and Russia's interest in the territory. The keynote address will be streamed live and can be watched for free worldwide.
