of suicide, although they said a conclusion would only be reached after the post-mortem examination, according to PTI. According to police, Roy suffered bullet injuries from his licensed firearm at his office near Richmond Circle in the city, raising suspicion that he may have shot himself. Upon hearing the sound of a gunshot, staff members rushed to his room and found him covered in blood. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Sources said that the Income Tax Department had raided his premises earlier in the day. "An incident occurred today within the limits of Ashok Nagar police station, where the chairman of the Confident Group (CJ Roy) shot himself. The SOCO (Scene of Crime Officer) team and the FSL team are investigating the matter. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The Income Tax team had been searching his premises for the past 2-3 days." Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said. "We don't have all the details yet. A team from Kerala had come. The police are in contact with the family members who are not in India. They are arriving by flight today. As of now, it appears to be a case of suicide. According to preliminary information, an IT raid had been going on for the past two days. There had been raids before as well. We are yet to have the details of that," he added.
Who was C J Roy?
C J Roy, who was originally from Kerala and grew up in Bengaluru, was the founder and chairman of the Confident Group. This group is a well-known real estate developer with a presence in Bengaluru, Kochi, other parts of India, and the Middle East. He held a PhD, studied in France and Switzerland, and worked with Hewlett-Packard early in his career.
C J Roy founded the Confident Group in 2006, after the dot-com bust. According to data available on the company's website, over the years he has built the company into a debt-free real estate enterprise, completing over 165 projects, covering more than 43 million square feet, and serving over 15,000 customers.
Besides real estate, C J Roy expanded the Confident Group into hospitality, infrastructure, and entertainment. He was also known for sponsoring popular television shows like Idea Star Singer. Roy was actively involved in philanthropic activities, including rebuilding 100 homes after the devastating floods in Kerala and funding heart surgeries for underprivileged patients, which earned him respect beyond the business community.
