At least 12 people have lost their lives as heavy rains continue to batter Maharashtra. Among the casualties, 9 deaths were reported from Nanded district as of Tuesday (August 19) noon, News18
Rescue operations are ongoing for the third consecutive day, and officials have rescued 293 people from flood-hit villages in Nanded so far, officials told PTI.
In the early hours of Tuesday, PTI reported that seven people travelling in an autorickshaw and a car were swept away on Mujkhed-Udgir Road around 1.40 am. Local rescue teams have managed to save three men from the incident, and a search is underway for a man and three women.

The Indian Army has set up a medical camp and started food distribution initiatives to villagers affected by the flood. They are working in coordination with the State Disaster Response Teams (SDRTs) and Civil Administration to continue relief operations in the district.
Of the 12 deaths in Maharashtra, one person died due to a wall collapse in Mumbai city, while the details of two other fatalities from other districts are not clear yet.
IMD has issued a red alert warning for Mumbai city and the suburban region for the day. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he is closely monitoring the situation as heavy rains have disrupted normal life.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all the government officers, schools, and colleges in the city and urged private companies to allow employees to work from home. The Mumbai Police also advised people to avoid travel.
