According to PTI, 97 flights were cancelled, including 48 arrivals and 49 departures, as low visibility conditions affected aircraft movement. In addition, over 200 flights were delayed, with the average delay for departing flights standing at around 23 minutes, as per data from flight tracking website Flightradar24.
Despite the disruptions, the airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said operations were running smoothly. In a post on X around noon, DIAL stated that the situation at the airport remained under control. DIAL operates Indira Gandhi International Airport, the country’s busiest airport, which handles around 1,300 flights daily.

Earlier in the day, Delhi airport also issued a passenger travel advisory at 8 am, confirming that flight operations were operating seamlessly. Passengers were advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules and operational changes.

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued an advisory on Sunday, warning that fog conditions across parts of northern India are affecting visibility and may lead to delays or changes in flight operations at select airports.
As per ANI, AAI advised passengers to check flight updates with their airlines through official channels and to allow extra time for airport travel and completion of formalities. To assist travellers during the adverse weather, AAI has deployed passenger assistance teams at affected airports to provide on-ground support and guidance.
AAI said passenger safety and convenience remain its highest priority, and also shared customer support contact numbers of major airlines to help travellers access real-time flight information.

Separately, IndiGo issued a travel advisory late on December 20, warning that early-morning fog across Delhi and parts of northern India could cause sudden drops in visibility and impact flight operations.
The airline said its teams would remain fully prepared through the night and monitor weather conditions minute by minute. Passengers were advised to check flight status before heading to the airport and opt for rebooking or refunds if their flights are affected.

Flight operations have been facing disruptions for several days at Delhi and other northern Indian airports as dense fog continues to affect visibility, a recurring challenge during the winter season.
