Red Alert in Kerala, Orange Alert Elsewhere

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, August 5, predicted heavy rainfall for several states across the country over the coming days.

The Met Office issued a red alert for Kerala, predicting

extremely heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The IMD also predicted rains, issuing an orange alert for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

Additionally, the IMD predicted generally cloudy skies along with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Delhi on Tuesday.

The maximum temperature is likely to be between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius in the national capital, while the minimum is expected to be between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Northwest India

The IMD predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand from August 5 to 10, Himachal Pradesh during from August 5 to 8, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab on August 5, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh on August 5 and 6, and east Uttar Pradesh on August 5, with very heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on August 5.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, over the Western

Himalayan region and in some places over the plains during the next seven days.

East and Central India

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar from August 5 to 9; Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on August 6 and 7, Jharkhand on August 7 and 8, northwest Madhya Pradesh on August 5, Chhattisgarh on August 8, 9 and10 with isolated very heavy rainfall over Bihar on August 5, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 7.

The IMD predicted light to moderate rainfall

at most places, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the region during the next five days.

Northeast India

Light/moderate rainfall at many places accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from August 5 to 10, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during August 5-8 with isolated very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh from August 7 to 10, Assam and Meghalaya on August 7 and 8.

South

Peninsular India

Extremely heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Kerala and the Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu on August 5 and 6. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, coastal and south interior Karnataka from August 5 to 8, Lakshadweep on August 5 and 6, north interior Karnataka on August 6, 7 and 8, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on August 5, 6 and 7, Rayalaseema from August 5 to 10 with very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala on August 7, coastal and south interior Karnataka on August 5 and 6, and Rayalaseema on August 5.

Strong surface winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are very likely over South Peninsular India during the next three days. Light to moderate rainfall at some/many places, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Telangana during the next five days.

West India

The IMD predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Marathawada on August 6 and 7, Konkan and Goa on August 7 and 8 and Madhya Maharashtra on August 8. Light

to moderate rainfall at many/some places is very likely over the region during the next six days.
