According to the IMD guidelines, severe fog is expected in northeastern Uttar Pradesh on the evening and morning of December 11. Severe fog is also likely in several parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, and Uttarakhand. The IMD issued an alert advising people and travellers to use low beams or fog lights when driving, avoid needless travel during peak fog hours, and exercise care.
Parts ofNorth India continue to experience fog, which might be difficult for early-morning travellers. The weather agency has advised people to restrict their early-morning outdoor activities, remain warm, and take the appropriate health measures. Those with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and children are particularly at risk during this time.

Cold wave alert in MP-Maharashtra
Large parts of the country, including western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and northern Odisha, had been impacted by a severe cold wave on Wednesday. It even extended to northern regions like Punjab and Haryana.
It is expected to worsen on December 11 and 12 across states, including Haryana, Delhi, northwest Rajasthan, and portions of Maharashtra.
Extreme cold in Punjab-Haryana
Punjab and Haryana are experiencing severe cold. With a low temperature of 3.6°C on Tuesday, Rupnagar was the coldest location in both nearby states. The Meteorological Department reported that the lowest temperature was 6.1°C in Amritsar, 9.2°C in Ludhiana, and 10.1°C in Patiala.
With a temperature of 8.6°C, Chandigarh has also been affected by the cold wave. The lowest temperature in Haryana was 6.7°C in Hisar and 10.9°C in Ambala.
Dense fog in northeastern regions
In addition to the cold, heavy fog is predicted for early Thursday in a number of states. The IMD warned of potential thick fog conditions in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and other northeastern areas, including Assam and Manipur, from December 9 to 13.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh
Cold wave conditions are expected in Uttarakhand, where dry weather is being reported across every district. Himachal Pradesh could see another shift in the weather.
The state is expected to see light rain and snowfall due to the activation of a western disturbance.
Meanwhile, 13 regions around the state have minimum temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued a yellow alert in both states.
