Delhi Boosted by New Expressway Projects

• PM Modi opened Delhi's Dwarka Expressway & UER-II (₹11,000 cr), easing NCR travel.
• Gadkari cited Modi's vision for world-class infrastructure since 2014.
• Projects link key transport hubs, cut airport travel to 20 mins, boost NCR connectivity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (August 17) received a grand welcome from supporters as he inaugurated two mega National Highway projects—the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension

Road-II (UER-II)—together worth nearly ₹11,000 crore.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the new projects will greatly ease travel across the Delhi-NCR region. “I congratulate the people of Delhi-NCR for this modern connectivity. When the world judges India, it first looks at our capital, Delhi. We have to make Delhi a model of a developed India. Our government has worked on this at multiple levels. In the past 11 years, travel has become easier in Delhi NCR,” he said.

The Prime Minister

also made a strong political statement, saying, “After a long time, there is a BJP government in Delhi. The previous governments put Delhi in a ditch. The BJP government has to fill up that ditch and then progress will be seen. But I believe this team you have elected will pull Delhi out of that situation.”

Earlier, PM Modi personally reviewed the projects, accompanied by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini.

He also interacted with

construction workers at the Dwarka Expressway site, thanking them for their efforts, and later held a roadshow at Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza, where crowds cheered and chanted “Modi-Modi.”

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari hailed the projects, recalling how PM Modi’s vision since 2014 had guided the ministry. “Today is a matter of great pride for our ministry. After becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Modi ji directed us to prepare plans for world-class infrastructure. At that time, the situation was not good in Delhi, traffic jams and pollution

were everywhere,” Gadkari said.

The Dwarka Expressway Delhi stretch, built at a cost of ₹5,360 crore, connects directly to Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange lines, Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka bus depot. The UER-II section, costing ₹5,580 crore, provides new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, easing congestion at Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, Ring Roads, and NH-09. Together, these projects are expected to cut travel time to IGI Airport to 20 minutes and boost regional connectivity across NCR cities.
