Heavy Rains Disrupt Flights in Jammu Kashmir

Air travel in Jammu and Kashmir remained severely affected on Tuesday (August 26) as heavy rains battered the region, disrupting connectivity and normal life.

IndiGo’s Mumbai-Srinagar flight (6E214) was

diverted to Amritsar, while its Delhi-Srinagar service (6E2747) was diverted to Chandigarh earlier in the day. Air India Express also cancelled its Srinagar–Jammu flight (IX2565). Many other flights, however, managed to operate to and from Srinagar before the disruptions began.

Meanwhile, flight operations at Leh remained suspended throughout the day, with all arrivals and departures cancelled. The airlines have not offered any clarity yet on the status of flights scheduled for tomorrow. (August 27).

The aviation disruptions come as incessant rainfall wreaks havoc across Jammu, leading to waterlogging, landslides and widespread disruption of normal life.

Internet and phone connectivity have also been impacted in parts of the state. The Chenab river is flowing above the danger mark, and the Jammu–Srinagar highway — a crucial road link — has been closed to traffic.

Authorities have issued advisories urging people to avoid water bodies and landslide-prone areas. The Meteorological Department has forecast

moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts, including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar, with a possibility of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides in higher reaches till August 27.
