What is the story about?
A late-night fire aboard the Tatanagar–Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh triggered panic among passengers and left one person dead. The incident took place near Yalamanchili, around 66 km from Visakhapatnam, shortly after midnight.
Police said they were alerted to the blaze at around 12:45 am, following reports of flames in two coaches of the moving train.
Preliminary information suggests that nearly 160 passengers were travelling in the two affected compartments at the time of the incident. During a subsequent check of the coaches, authorities found the body of a male passenger in the B1 coach, police said according to a report in PTI.
The victim was later identified as Chandrsekhar Sundaram, 70, of Vijayawada.
As a precautionary measure, the damaged coaches were detached, after which the train resumed its onward journey to Ernakulam. Officials said arrangements were being made to ensure that passengers from the affected coaches reached their destinations safely.
Forensic teams have been deployed to determine the cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing. No official assessment has yet been made on whether the blaze was caused by a technical fault or other factors.
Railway authorities are expected to issue a detailed statement after the completion of preliminary inquiries.
