The voting was held on Thursday, January 15, for all 29 municipal corporations, including Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
About PMC elections 2026
The PMC election saw a total of 1,165 candidates contesting for 165 seats across 41 wards of the city’s civic body. The Pune Municipal Corporation recorded a final voter turnout of 52.42%.
Pune is also being closely followed, as two opposing factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and his uncle, Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Pawar, have forged an alliance for the municipal polls.

Exit polls for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections indicate a win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is likely to win about 70 of the 165 seats, while Ajit Pawar's NCP could get 55. Sharad Pawar's NCP is expected to win 10 seats, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde), which contested the election independently, could win 12 seats.
What Happened In 2017?
The last Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) election took place on February 21, 2017, where 55.45% of eligible voters participated, choosing from 1,090 candidates.
The BJP secured a clear victory with 97 of the 162 seats. The NCP was the runner-up with 39 seats, while Shiv Sena gained 10, Congress secured nine, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) got two, and AIMIM won one, with the remaining four seats going to Independents and others.

Following the election, the BJP's Mukta Tilak was named mayor, and Navnath Kamble became deputy mayor.
