The Mahayuti alliance is leading in early trends of in Maharashtra's local body polls after achieving a sweeping victory in Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC).
The BJP and its ally Shiv Sena were ahead of National Congress Party (NCP) in the early trends of the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls in Maharashtra.
Early trends show BJP leading in 26 seats of Zilla Parishads and Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena in 13 while the NCP was leading in 13, according to PTI report. This includes 10 seats where Congress is leading and six from Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT).
There's no official confirmation from the State Election Commission yet.
Counting began at 10 am on Monday, February 9, after polling was held on Saturday across 12 Zilla Parishads: Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv and Latur.
A total of 2,624 candidates contested the Zilla Parishad elections, while 4,814 candidates were in the fray for the Panchayat Samiti polls.
