Delhi Secretariat Faces Yamuna Flood Threat

The Yamuna river water level at Delhi’s Old Railway Bridge stood at 207.48 metres at 7 am on Thursday (September 4), as floodwater continued to spill into nearby areas.

Official data showed the river held

steady at 207.48 metres between 6 am and 7 am, after rising marginally from 207.47 metres at 5 am. It had remained static at 207.47 metres between 2 am and 5 am.

Floodwaters have now reached the vicinity of the Delhi Secretariat — home to the Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, and top bureaucrats. Areas around Vasudev Ghat and the Shri Marghat Wale Hanuman Baba Mandir near Kashmere Gate are also inundated.

A flood control bulletin issued Wednesday evening predicted the level would remain at 207.48 metres at 8 am

before beginning to recede. The Old Railway Bridge is a key monitoring site for the river's flow and flood risks.

According to the revenue department, 8,018 people have been shifted to tents and 2,030 to 13 permanent shelters.\

The government has urged citizens not to panic, assuring that round-the-clock monitoring and relief measures are in place.
